On a Summer Tide (Three Sisters Island #1)

Sometimes love hurts–and sometimes it can heal in the most unexpected way.

Camden Grayson loves her challenging career, but the rest of her life could use some improvement. “Moving on” is Cam’s mantra. But there’s a difference, her two sisters insist, between one who moves on . . . and one who keeps moving.

Cam’s full-throttle life skids to a stop when her father buys a remote island off the coast of Maine. Paul Grayson has a dream to breathe new life into the island–a dream that includes reuniting his estranged daughters. Certain Dad has lost his mind, the three sisters rush to the island. To Cam’s surprise, the slow pace of island life appeals to her, along with the locals–and one in particular. Sam Walker, the scruffy island schoolteacher harbors more than a few surprises.

Suzanne Woods Fisher’s writes Amish fiction which I have reviewed here. I wasn’t sure what to expect with On A Summer Tide which is contemporary. Fisher does an amazing job with contemporary fiction and I will definitely be waiting for the next book in this series. In fact, I would like to know if I can move to Three Sisters Island? The Maine scenery sounds amazing and peaceful.

I always enjoy when writers develop characters and families that are not perfect or cliche. The family dynamics revolving around a father and his three daughters are not perfect but full of drama. He was a career focused husband and now is a widow. He’s trying to cope and build relationships with his daughters. Each daughter with her own unique personality and her view of the world, is against his plans for moving on. The story evolves and the supporting characters are not to be missed from Peg (owner of the Lunch Counter), Seth (school teacher) to Coon Cat and Lola (a falcon). In fact, I look forward to their stories developing in future books.

It is a very easy read, but the charming story will surprise you at times. It’s a book you don’t want to put down, but it’s evenly paced and peaceful to read. If you are looking for an easy vacation or beach read, this will do it. I can’t wait to see what is coming up next on Three Sisters Island!
