Sara Hinrichs Coast and Anchor
Sara Hinrichs | Sarasota, Florida

“I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, THIS IS ME”

Sara Hinrichs and FamilyHello & welcome to my coastal view from Sarasota, Florida! My name is Sara and I am the creator of Coast and Anchor! Here is an ocean view of my world and how we changed the course of our ship.  Sometimes you have to coast in seasons of your journey and other times you anchor to stay firmly put. After many years of coasting, we are finally anchored in Sarasota, Florida. Why did you move to Florida you ask? Most of Florida’s residents are transplants from another state, we fit into that category. Our journey to Florida started back in March of 2002, when we visited Tampa Bay for a work conference.  A year later, we went to the Keys and stayed on Islamorada for another work trip. From that point on it was our newly discovered dream! The salt life was calling us down from the every-season-is-harsh Midwest. After getting married, renovating several houses and a baby, we decided it was time to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. We sold the house we lived in and bought a house over 1,100 miles away. Seven years later, another baby, and a new laborador retriever (named Grady), we still pinch ourselves to see if we are dreaming. There were a few additional seasons of change in between – including moving back to St. Louis, Missouri for 364 days, several more renovations, moving to and from a few more houses – but now we can say that the anchor has dropped and we are no longer coasting. What words describe me? Determined. Compassionate. Creative. Positive. God-loving. Thinker. DIY junkie. Entrepreneur. Home Renovator. Things I like to do or have done? Always up for a challenge or an adventure, you never know what you may find me doing. I have done a few things that I probably won’t do again- namely sky diving out of a plane by myself (you read that correct, not attached to anyone). But you can find me doing these things when I get the chance – scuba diving, yoga, boating, skiing, paddle boarding (SUP), reading books and whatever else I put my mind to. On my to do list is traveling to Africa, Europe and Australia, kayaking, writing a book and getting my doctorate (just because). Things that drive me crazy? Grammatical errors, people talking on their phone in restaurants, foul mouths in public (my girls are sponges people!), garlic breath (yuck), littering, calling people and having phone conversations (although moving 1,100 miles from family and friends has improved this a little). A few of my favorite things? All things nautical, anchors, boating, the beach, sunshine, sushi, traveling, a good book (any book actually), a glass of wine, laughing with friends, trying new restaurants, Broadway musicals, music of all genres, watching my girls do something for the first time, spending time with my hubby and living the salt life. A few of my favorite quotes? Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson Why fit in, when you were born to stand out! – Dr. Seuss So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact. And remember that life’s A Great Balancing Act. And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed) Kid, you’ll move mountains.” ― Dr. Seuss Never lie, steal, cheat or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away. ~ Toast from the movie Hitch Anything is possible. Anything can be. ― Shel Silverstein Shoot for the moon.  Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.  ~Les Brown Map out your future, but do it in pencil.  ~Jon Bon Jovi We have this hope as an anchor for the soul. ~Hebrews 6:19 (The Bible)   BlogSignature
